Rock Workshops (10 – 16 years)

The HDLMA runs a one-day session four times a year during half term school breaks, aimed at budding musicians.

The morning session (10am – 1.30pm) is designed as an introduction to playing drums, guitar, bass, keyboards or singing, coached by professional session musicians. This is a basic introduction with the emphasis on fun and experimentation.

The afternoon session (2.30pm – 6pm) is designed for young musicians who have been regularly playing their respective instruments for 12 – 18 months. They are coached to develop their skills further by interpreting a contemporary rock song, playing with other musicians and recording the session onto CD, a copy of which is available once production has been finalised.

Guitar Masterclass

This session (11am – 3pm), run twice a year in school holidays, gives young guitarists the opportunity to further their skills, hosted by professional tutor and composer Nico Sabatini. This aims to stretch and build on existing ability with some practical exercises which can be further developed at home.

Singing Sensations

This will appeal to all you wannabe singers out there from 8 to 80! Choose your favourite song, come along to the studio and lay your vocals onto CD. Go it alone, or bring your mum to do backing vocals! Jo, our singing tutor, will be on hand to guide you through a final rehearsal before recording. Professionally produced and edited, your CD will be sent to you within a matter of days.

Live Music Workshops

Beginners 10am – 1.30pm
Experience a studio environment and work alongside our session musicians. Learn to play as part of a band on drums, guitar, bass, keyboard or vocals – enthusiasm crucial.
£16 (LAC £8) Ages 10 – 16
Intermediates 2.30pm – 6.30pm
Really begin to understand how a band functions and what it takes to make a song work. Our musicians will help you develop your skills and share hints and tips needed to be in a band. Your session will be recorded & provided on CD.

Amp Workshop

Learn at the feet of the master Henk Philipsen. Discover what your amp really is for and the different set up options – what’s good for the practice room maybe pants on stage.

Musician Drop In
